Caleb Fiala was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has become a key player for Immanuel Christian: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-6 otherwise. Fiala was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Daniel Klapmust, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jack Murphy was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Quantico was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Randolph-Macon Academy.
Like Immanuel Christian, Quantico also got a great game from a two-way player: C Acevedo. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits Acevedo has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, G Wolfenbarker was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Quantico's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Immanuel Christian, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Immanuel Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Quantico struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Immanuel Christian beat Quantico 6-3 in their previous matchup last Monday. Will Immanuel Christian repeat their success, or does Quantico has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
