Archbishop Mitty has gone a perfect 10-0 against Gilroy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Archbishop Mitty Monarchs will face off against the Gilroy Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Archbishop Mitty is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Archbishop Mitty will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs last Tuesday, then bounced right back against Carlmont on Tuesday. Archbishop Mitty walked away with a 13-8 win over Carlmont. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Monarchs.
Archbishop Mitty got a great performance from Kyleigh Mace as she struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Mace has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Rylie Hicks and Olivia Anderson did most of the damage at the plate: Hicks went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, while Anderson scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-6. That's the most hits Anderson has posted since back in April of 2024. Gianna Catalano also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Archbishop Mitty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, while Gilroy put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Salinas. Gilroy blew past Salinas 8-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Mustangs have posted against the Cowboys since April 2, 2019.
Not much got past Ariela Yslava, who gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks to keep Salinas off the board.
On the hitting side, Dani Wilson was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Another player making a difference was Leilany Martinez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Archbishop Mitty pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Gilroy, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Archbishop Mitty has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gilroy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Archbishop Mitty beat Gilroy 5-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will Archbishop Mitty repeat their success, or does Gilroy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
