Baseball Recap: Overton Wins Going Away Against Sheffield

Overton won the last time they faced Sheffield and things went their way on Friday too. The Wolverines were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Knights. Considering the Wolverines have won nine matches by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Overton let Tamarge Carey and Jeremiah Haynes run wild. Carey got on base in all three of his plate appearances with six stolen bases and two runs, while Haynes got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Those six stolen bases gave Carey a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aiden Dillard, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Overton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sheffield only posted an OBP of .458.

The win made it two in a row for Overton and bumps their season record up to 14-6-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Sheffield, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Overton will head out to square off against Cordova at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sheffield, they will venture away from home to face off against Freedom Prep Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
