Basketball Game Preview: Speedway Sparkplugs vs. Indian Creek Braves

The Speedway Sparkplugs will head out to challenge the Indian Creek Braves at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Last Saturday, Speedway lost to Southport on the road by a 58-42 margin. While losing is never fun, the Sparkplugs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 289th, while the Cardinals are ranked 129th).

The losing side was boosted by Macy DeLisle, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayli Clampitt, who went 5 of 12 en route to 10 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Speedway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Indian Creek waltzed into their game on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 51-29 victory. The Braves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 20 points or more this season.

Indian Creek is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Speedway, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-8.

Speedway came up short against Indian Creek when the teams last played back in February of 2022, falling 57-50. Thankfully for Speedway, Lauren Foster (who went 7 of 14 on her way to 24 points along with six rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time.
