The West Scranton Invaders will square off against the Scranton Prep Cavaliers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. West Scranton will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, West Scranton turned things around against Valley View on Monday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Cougars.
Jason Selemba spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits.
On the hitting side, Mason Lesh was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Cameron Cole was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Scranton Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Scranton.
Paul Rusincovitch put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Michael DeRichie was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
West Scranton's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-6. As for Scranton Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 2-6.
West Scranton came out on top in a nail-biter against Scranton Prep in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 13-12. Will the Invaders repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
