If the Union City Indians were riding high off their 52-28 takedown of the Cambridge City Lincoln Golden Eagles on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Union City was dealt a 70-41 loss at the hands of Tri on Saturday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Union City in their matchups with Tri: they've now lost eight in a row.
Union City's loss came despite strong showings from Luane Schoonbroodt and Camryn Fischer. Schoonbroodt scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Fischer scored 14 points. Fischer scored a full 34.1% of Union City's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Tri's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenley Cornelius, who scored 18 points along with five steals. Cornelius hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Jillian Chew was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with four steals.
Union City's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Tri, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union City will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Blue River Valley at 10:00 a.m. on December 29th. Tri will be home for the holidays to greet Winchester Community at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Winchester Community will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 285th, while Tri is ranked 94th).
