The Atlantic Eagles have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 56-36 walloping at the hands of Seminole Ridge on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Atlantic in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now lost three in a row.
Atlantic lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Keaira Todd, who scored nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiyana Sheely, who scored eight points.
Seminole Ridge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jayla Midget, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Midget is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Breanna Custodio was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with two steals.
Atlantic has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-4 record this season. As for Seminole Ridge, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Atlantic will challenge the Cobras at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Park Vista will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Eagles are ranked 114th). As for Seminole Ridge, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Crusaders at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Cardinal Newman is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
