The Mogollon Mustangs will challenge the Ray Bearcats at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mogollon comes in on four and Ray on six.
Mogollon will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Alchesay, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. Mogollon walked away with a 9-4 victory over Alchesay on Tuesday.
Chancy Worsley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rocky Porter, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Yoyo Suarez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Ray made easy work of Anthem Prep on Tuesday and carried off an 18-4 win. With that victory, the Bearcats brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
James Ruiz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. He has become a key player for Ray: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Seth Wade, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Ray always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Mogollon's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing seven strikeouts in those games compared to only four in the others. As for Ray, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Ray's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mogollon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .400. It's a different story for Ray, though, as they've only averaged .257. Will they be able to contain Mogollon's hitters?
Mogollon took their win against Ray when the teams last played back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 15-5. Does Mogollon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ray turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
