For the first time this season, Chapel Hill will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out to face off against the New Diana Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chapel Hill's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so New Diana's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Chapel Hill's last matchup with North Lamar could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest last Tuesday. The Red Devils came up short against the Panthers, falling 8-2. The game marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Meanwhile, New Diana had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 14-1 victory.
Landon Melton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Levi Green, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Max Martinez was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
New Diana always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson only posted an OBP of .318.
With the defeat, Chapel Hill broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2. As for New Diana, their record now sits at 5-10.
Chapel Hill suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to New Diana in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
