Softball Game Preview: Rancho Alamitos Vaqueros vs. Saddleback Roadrunners

Rancho Alamitos has gone a perfect 6-0 against Saddleback recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Vaqueros will challenge the Roadrunners at 3:00 p.m. One thing working in Rancho Alamitos' favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.

Last Wednesday, Rancho Alamitos was able to grind out a solid victory over Century, taking the game 16-12. The Vaqueros haven't had any issues with the Centurions recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Fernanda Cervantes was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up nine earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with three runs, three doubles, and two RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alejandra Corona was incredible, going 2-for-6 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Miley Reyes was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-6.

Rancho Alamitos kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 11.8.

Meanwhile, Saddleback can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 19-5 margin over Magnolia.

Saddleback's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-11. As for Rancho Alamitos, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Rancho Alamitos took their victory against Saddleback when the teams last played on Monday by a conclusive 15-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vaqueros since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
