After a string of 11 wins, the Malta Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Fergus by a score of 62-60. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Malta came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Montana basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 68th).
Kieran Netburn was a one-man wrecking crew for Fergus as he scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Netburn has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trajan Sparks, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Malta's defeat dropped their record down to 13-2. As for Fergus, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-9.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Havre the next time they take the court. Malta will head out to face the Blue Ponies at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Golden Eagles will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
