Cross extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 7-10. They lost 20-6 to the John Paul II Golden Warrriors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Warrriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 on Thursday.
Savannah Hollings was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Sydney Hollings, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
As for John Paul II, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-4. The result was nothing new for the Golden Warrriors, who have now won 16 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
On John Paul II's side, Ellie Heathcott was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Heathcott was even better at the plate, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2 runs per game.
In other batting news, Lauren Majorkiewicz was incredible, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Brea Cherol was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cross will square off against Thomas Heyward Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rebels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.25 runs per game on average), something the Stingrays will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for John Paul II, they are taking a road trip to take on Colleton Prep Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Golden Warrriors 2.9, the War Hawks 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
