For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Shenandoah Valley and Williams Valley meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. Shenandoah Valley put the hurt on Williams Valley with a sharp 10-2 win. Considering the Blue Devils have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Brayden Maksimik was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Brayden Lutz was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Jostin Lajara was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.
Shenandoah Valley's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Panther Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Panther Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Shenandoah Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Panther Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Shenandoah Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 9-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Panther Valley since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
