Valley View has gone a perfect 3-0 against Chaparral recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Valley View Eagles will welcome the Chaparral Pumas at 3:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Valley View has six straight victories, Chaparral has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Valley View had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Redlands on Saturday. Valley View's pitchers stepped up to hand Redlands a 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four games by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Ato Laumatia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Laumatia was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Giselle Morales looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Alyssa Torres was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jacqueline Divine, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Valley View hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Chaparral unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against Linfield Christian on Thursday, falling 15-4.
Chaparral saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was J Wear, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.
Valley View's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Chaparral, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Valley View took their victory against Chaparral in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-0. Will Valley View repeat their success, or does Chaparral have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
