After a string of three wins, the Laurel Christian Lions's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 39-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Newton County Academy. Laurel Christian has not had much luck with the Generals recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Laurel Christian saw an underclassman step up: Emma Risher scored 13 points.
Laurel Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Newton County Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Laurel Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Saints at 4:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Sylva Bay Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday. Newton County Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
