Softball Game Preview: Medical Lake Cardinals vs. Riverside Rams

For the second straight game, Medical Lake will face off against Riverside. The Cardinals are taking a road trip to square off against the Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Medical Lake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Medical Lake turned things around against Riverside on Saturday. They blew past the Rams 13-3. The Cardinals not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18th (when they won 19-8).

Isabel Barry made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted four RBI, the most she's had since back in March.

In other batting news, Medical Lake got a massive performance out of Emma Michaud, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three hits gave Michaud a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Burns, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Medical Lake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are 4-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Riverside has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Medical Lake, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 6-10.
