Cardinal Mooney is 1-6 against Clearwater Central Catholic since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cougars will square off against the Marauders at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cardinal Mooney comes in on three and Clearwater Central Catholic on six.
If Cardinal Mooney beats Clearwater Central Catholic with 49 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Cougars simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Bishop Verot 49-14. The Cougars pushed the score to 49-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Vikings cut but never quite recovered from.

Cardinal Mooney's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Connail Jackson led the charge by rushing for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 carries. Jackson's longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Mason Jordan did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 135 receiving yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cardinal Mooney was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 211 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 156 rushing yards in four consecutive games.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Cardinal Mooney, adding 14 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Laron Foye, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clearwater Central Catholic). They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 52-6 victory over Indian Rocks Christian. Given the Marauders' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Eagles are ranked 377th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cardinal Mooney better keep an eye on Khayse Barrett. He was instrumental in Clearwater Central Catholic's win, throwing for 265 yards and four TDs while completing 92.3% of his passes. Those four passing touchdowns gave Barrett a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Davion Jackson, who picked up 45 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Cardinal Mooney's record is now 4-1. As for Clearwater Central Catholic, their record now sits at 6-0.
Cardinal Mooney beat Clearwater Central Catholic 31-24 when the teams last played back in November of 2020. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Marauders' Bryson Martin, who threw for 232 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 85 yards on only eight carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Cougars to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
