Softball Recap: Albuquerque Academy Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Albuquerque Academy had won four straight at home, but on Tuesday they bumped their record up to 11-9 to make it five. They never let the Hope Christian Huskies get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.

Melissa Purcella was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooklynn Dominguez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Callia Jesurun also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Albuquerque Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hope Christian only posted an OBP of .211.

As for Hope Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-7. Considering the last time they couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

On Hope Christian's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Melody Dahlinger Venuk, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Albuquerque Academy is set to face off against their familiar foe Del Norte at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Hope Christian will square off against rival Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
