Charleston Math & Science's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Peyton Webb, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals. Burke found their leader in underclassman Andrea Kelly, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Nathaya Phoenix was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Charleston Math & Science and nudges their season record down to 2-14. As for Burke, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Charleston Math & Science will challenge Baptist Hill at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Baptist Hill is ranked 229th, while Charleston Math & Science is ranked 236th). As for Burke, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against North Charleston at 3:00 p.m. on January 20th. North Charleston is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
