The Riverside Warriors came tearing into Saturday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They skirted past Bishop Verot 52-50. Given Riverside's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked second in South Carolina, while Bishop Verot is ranked 104th in Florida), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leroy Roker and Jerry Ashley certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Roker scored 20 points along with six rebounds, while Ashley dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. The match was Roker's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Gavin Williams was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Riverside pushed their record up to 12-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Bishop Verot, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-3.
Riverside will be playing in front of their home fans against Gaffney at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Gaffney is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Bishop Verot, they will head out on the road to face off against Cathedral Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
