Durant has gone 9-1 against East Bay recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Durant Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the East Bay Indians at 7:00 p.m. Durant is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Durant took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Sumner 2-1.
Betty Oderio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Durant's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lennox Ullrich, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base was Ullrich's first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask East Bay). They were the clear victor by a 27-7 margin over Leto on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won four in a row.
Heidy Encarnacion and Jensen Nelson did most of the damage at the plate: Encarnacion got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Nelson got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance gave Nelson a new career-high in runs. Jessalyn Lugo was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
East Bay was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leto only posted a batting average of .182.
The win got East Bay back to even at 2-2. As for Durant, the victory also got them back to even at 2-2.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Durant has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .466. However, it's not like East Bay struggles in that department as they've averaged .550. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Durant beat East Bay 7-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Durant since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
