The Dixon Dukes & Duchesses will head out on the road to face off against the Winnebago Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Dixon has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while Winnebago will come in with three straight wins.
Dixon is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since March 30, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Byron by a score of 6-4.
Bailey Tegeler made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Abby Hicks also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Winnebago hadn't done well against Rock Falls recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Indians were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Rockets.
Vern Gilley-Amdal made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Sammi Falnes was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Kyla Warkentien was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Winnebago kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.
Dixon's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Winnebago, their record now sits at 16-13.
Everything went Dixon's way against Winnebago in their previous meeting back in April, as Dixon made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dukes & Duchesses since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
