Two dominant backs in Bryce Burgess and Ladamion Mcdowell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Dawson Eagles will be playing at home against the Pearland Oilers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Last Friday, Dawson humbled Strake Jesuit with a 45-17 victory. Given Dawson's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 186th, while Strake Jesuit is ranked 503rd), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Burgess continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 145 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Burgess was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards. Another big playmaker for Dawson was Rodney Bonham, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Pearland got themselves on the board against Alvin on Friday, but Alvin never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Yellowjackets 73-0 on the road.
Pearland can attribute much of their success to Mcdowell, who rushed for 80 yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries. Mcdowell is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Morkovsky, who threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes.
Their wins bumped Dawson to 3-3 and Pearland to 5-1.
Dawson beat Pearland 21-14 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Will Dawson repeat their success, or does Pearland have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
