The Union City Bears will square off against the Iroquois Braves at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Union City has five straight wins, Iroquois has 15 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Union City is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Eisenhower with a sharp 17-2 victory on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bears with their most commanding win of the season.
Trevin Capela was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Wright, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Kinney, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Union City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Iroquois' offense. They came up short against Mercyhurst Prep on Monday, falling 15-0. Considering the last time the Braves couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
Union City's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Iroquois, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.
Union City was able to grind out a solid victory over Iroquois in their previous matchup two weeks ago, winning 14-9. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Braves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
