Baseball Recap: First State Military Academy Has No Trouble Against Newark

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Archmere Academy, First State Military Academy was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They blew past the Newark Yellowjackets 13-6. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bulldogs also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Alex Bright made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. First State Military Academy is undefeated when Bright posts two or more runs, but 0-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, First State Military Academy let Steven Bright and Jacob Porrini run wild. Bright went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Porrini went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Porrini has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Austin Belford, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

The victory got First State Military Academy back to even at 4-4. As for Newark, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. First State Military Academy will face off against Seaford at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are facing the Bluejays at the right time seeing as the Bluejays are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Newark, they will take on Christiana at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
