The Brentwood Christian Bears will head out on the road to square off against the Grace Prep Lions at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Brentwood Christian has given up an average of 27.4 points per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Brentwood Christian is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Grace Community just ended the team's three-game winning streak two weeks ago. The contest between the Bears and the Cougars didn't end well, with the Bears falling 33-14. The matchup marked the Bears' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Brentwood Christian might have lost, but man, Gabe Washington was a machine: he picked up 149 receiving yards and one TD. Brayden Jennings was another key player, throwing for 224 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Brentwood Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jack Hansen and Esteban Gutierrez. Luke Weed was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 16 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Grace Prep played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Hyde Park, falling 34-14. The Lions' defeat didn't just snap their winning streak: it also ended the team's undefeated season.
Although Grace Prep took the loss, they still got scores from David Jergenson and Jesse Zimmerman.
Brentwood Christian's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Grace Prep, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.
Saturday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Brentwood Christian has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 198.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Grace Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 264.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Brentwood Christian against Grace Prep in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 49-18 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Lions' Bryce Prince, who rushed for 207 yards and two scores. Now that he won't be playing on Saturday, will it be easier for the Bears to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
