Basketball Recap: Southern Fulton Falls Despite Big Games from Trentin Cain and Gaven Mellott

Southern Fulton lost against Berlin Brothersvalley back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Southern Fulton Indians took a 74-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers.

Gaven Mellott and Trentin Cain certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Mellott went 7 for 12 on his way to 18 points along with seven steals and six boards, while Cain went 9 of 16 en route to 24 points. Those 24 points gave Cain a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiden Schriever, who posted seven points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Berlin Brothersvalley to victory, but perhaps none more so than McKelvey Foor, who went 8 for 13 on his way to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Joseph Richardson, who went 7 of 12 en route to 20 points and six boards.

Southern Fulton dropped their record down to 6-10 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Berlin Brothersvalley, they moved to 5-9 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Southern Fulton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-37 defeat against Shalom Christian Academy on the 25th. As for Berlin Brothersvalley, they are taking a road trip to take on United at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Berlin Brothersvalley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season.
