The Mackay Miners's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They lost to Salmon on the road by a decisive 76-60 margin. Even though they lost, Mackay's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.7 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Kaizer Summers and Ruger Nicholls certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Summers dropped a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds, while Nicholls scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. The game was Summers' ninth in a row with at least ten points. Cooper Holt was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 13 rebounds.
Mackay bumped their record down to 3-6 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Salmon, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mackay's road trip will continue as they head out to face Grace Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Salmon, they will challenge Butte County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Butte County will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
