Make it nine blowout wins for the McAllen Bulldogs this season. They claimed a resounding 67-31 win over Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North on the road. Given McAllen's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 416th, while Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North is ranked 965th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading McAllen to victory were D'aundre Canada and Mario Villegas. Canada scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Villegas scored 23 points along with five steals. Villegas hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Benavidez, who scored ten points.
McAllen is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-14.
McAllen will be playing in front of their home fans against McAllen Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as McAllen Memorial comes in on 11 and McAllen on four. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, they will head out on the road to challenge Pioneer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Pioneer focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
