Softball Recap: Highland Baptist Christian Wins Going Away Against Gueydan

Highland Baptist Christian barely beat Gueydan the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Highland Baptist Christian put the hurt on Gueydan with a sharp 14-8 win on Thursday. Highland Baptist Christian might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Sara Romero was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Highland Baptist Christian got a massive performance out of Chloe Delahoussaye, who went 1-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases Delahoussaye has posted since back in February of 2024. Addisen Yates was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Highland Baptist Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Highland Baptist Christian and bumps their season record up to 6-13. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Gueydan, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.

Highland Baptist Christian will challenge Lafayette at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Gueydan, they will venture away from home to square off against V.B. Glencoe Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
