Mynderse Academy barely beat Palmyra-Macedon the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Red Raiders with a sharp 11-2 win on Thursday. Haley Young was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Mynderse Academy got a massive performance out of Isabella Burlew, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave Burlew a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyah Lajewski, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Mynderse Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palmyra-Macedon only posted an OBP of .323.
The victory (which was Mynderse Academy's third in a row) raised their record to 10-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Palmyra-Macedon, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mynderse Academy will challenge Waterloo at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.06 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Palmyra-Macedon, they will be playing at home against Bloomfield at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bombers will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Red Raiders surely won't give up without a fight.
