The Broadneck Bruins had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They wrapped up 2023 with a 47-30 win over Eleanor Roosevelt. Given Broadneck's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Eleanor Roosevelt is ranked 123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Mackenzie Wharton, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Miller, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds.
Eleanor Roosevelt lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being McKenzie D'antignac, who scored nine points. Sakairah Sterling was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Broadneck's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Eleanor Roosevelt, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
Broadneck will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Glen Burnie at 5:00 p.m. on January 12th. Glen Burnie and Broadneck are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads. As for Eleanor Roosevelt, they will face off against Wise at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Wise has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
