The Somerset Academy South Homestead Hurricanes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 23 points or more this season. They blew past Mater Academy Bay, posting a 48-20 victory on the road. The squad ran away with 38 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the victory.
Somerset Academy South Homestead's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sakura Barnes, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. The game was Barnes' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Justice Sheppard, who scored seven points along with ten assists and seven rebounds.
Somerset Academy South Homestead's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Mater Academy Bay, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Somerset Academy South Homestead is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Colonial Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 9th. Colonial Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 567th, while Somerset Academy South Homestead is ranked 224th). As for Mater Academy Bay, they will head out on the road to face off against Academy for Innovative Education at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Academy for Innovative Education will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
