Softball Recap: Reeltown Has No Trouble Against Valley

Reeltown lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Valley, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's contest. The Rebels put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 12-5 victory on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Caroline Sutherland and Crisdan Dunn made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Sutherland pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Dunn tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Sutherland scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5, while Dunn scored three runs while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave Sutherland a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kellie Whitlow was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Kira Chappell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.

Reeltown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Reeltown has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Valley, their defeat was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 7-18.

Looking ahead, Reeltown will welcome Lee-Scott Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Valley, they will head out to square off against Beulah at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games the Bobcats have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
