Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 16 to 9 on the offensive boards, a fact the Kaufman Lions proved on Friday. They claimed a resounding 57-23 win over Caddo Mills at home. With Kaufman ahead 38-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Kaufman found their leader in underclassman Alizay Gonzalez, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Gonzalez scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Garrah Prox, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and two blocks.
Despite the defeat, Caddo Mills saw an underclassman step up: Emeril Grant scored 11 points along with three steals. Grant has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played.
Kaufman has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-12 record this season. As for Caddo Mills, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-17.
Kaufman will head out on the road to take on Farmersville at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Kaufman is coming into the game with three straight wins on the road, meaning Farmersville will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for Caddo Mills, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Community at 6:15 p.m. Hopefully Caddo Mills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday.
