Veanna Helmstetter made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Monroeville let Taryn Tyler and Madison Reiber run wild. Tyler went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Reiber went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Reiber has posted since back in April. Payton Weilnau was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Monroeville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Mathews owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Wednesday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over Chalker. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Monroeville is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Mathews, their record now sits at 24-5-1.
Monroeville skirted past Mathews 5-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
