The Milton Red Hawks will head out to take on the Beaver Dam Golden Beavers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Milton took a 13-run defeat the last time they faced off against Union Grove, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Red Hawks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Broncos on Saturday, sneaking past 8-7. While the Red Hawks didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Sawyer Dominy looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Gavin Cole and Charlie Fitzke did most of the damage at the plate: Cole got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Fitzke got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those stolen bases were Fitzke's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Easton Agnew, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Beaver Dam had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Norskies 5-3.
Milton has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Beaver Dam, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1.
