Football Recap: Lincoln North Star Starts Season with Victory at Home

Lincoln North Star gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They snuck past the Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks with a 14-10 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Navigators also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.

While passing duties were split, you can't argue with the impact Eli Schafer and Tyrell Chatman both made on the matchup. Schafer threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns while Chatman gained 133 total yards and a touchdown.

Lincoln Southwest lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Luke Mitchell, who rushed for 114 yards on only 14 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 58 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Looking ahead, Lincoln North Star will square off against Papillion-LaVista on Thursday. As for Lincoln Southwest, they will challenge Lincoln Southeast at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
