West Valley recap November 5, 2013
El Camino Real moved up to 536 from 567 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in West Valley. The Conquistadors climbed the ranks as a result of beating Taft 38-35.
Granada Hills Charter added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Cleveland, 55-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Highlanders.
Emanuel Castro provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Birmingham bested Chatsworth. He completed 12 passes for 201 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 51 yards. Castro's favorite target this week was London Bell, who caught 4 passes for 73 yards.
Adam Blythe threw for 202 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 13-18 with 0 interceptions.
Bryson Bowman was the best receiver in the league this week as Granada Hills Charter defeated the Cavaliers. Bowman tallied 4 receptions for 106 yards. Jordan Williams helped Granada Hills Charter's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 23 yards.
Billy Parra's team's Ramon Johnson and Ryan Willmore led West Valley in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback Johnson has thrown for 1,710 yards this season, while Willmore has 38 catches for 582 yards. The Toreadors' Abraham Thomas leads the league in rushing yards with 1,305.
Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Taft takes on the Patriots. Deron Braswell's team's offense has racked up 302 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Birmingham has allowed only 131 on the year.
The Toreadors are in fourth place, while Jim Rose's team is in first place.
El Camino Real and Taft played the closest game in the league this week, with El Camino Real eventually emerging with a 38-35 victory. Blythe ran for 29 yards in the win.
