The Evergreen Cougars have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They received a tough blow on Wednesday as they fell 57-41 to D'Evelyn. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Evergreen in their matchups with D'Evelyn: they've now lost six in a row.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tatum Buenning, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison McEvers, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Peyton Marvel was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds for D'Evelyn. The matchup was Marvel's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Macy Scheer, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Evergreen has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-3 record this season. As for D'Evelyn, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.
Evergreen will be playing at home against Bear Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bear Creek has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. D'Evelyn is on the road again on Friday and play against Wheat Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Wheat Ridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 227th, while D'Evelyn is ranked eighth).
