Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for St. Pius X

St. Pius X extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday, bumping them up to 13-5. They put the hurt on the Belen Eagles with a sharp 9-1 win. The Sartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Lexi Jaramillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.

At the plate, St. Pius X got a massive performance out of Jaelyn Olloway, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those four RBI gave Olloway a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zo? Mangrum, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: St. Pius X kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matchups.

As for Belen, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10. The defeat continues a trend for them in their meetings with St. Pius X: they've now lost five in a row.

On Belen's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Honey Mirabal, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Pius X will welcome Grants at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Sartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 14.4 runs per game this season. As for Belen, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Highland at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hornets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.45 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
