Basketball Game Preview: Cambridge Academy Cougars vs. Anderson Christian Lions

For the first time this season, Cambridge Academy will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Anderson Christian Lions at 7:30 p.m.

Last Monday, Cambridge Academy lost to Laurens Academy on the road by a 52-36 margin. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Crusaders 16-5 in the first quarter.

Despite their loss, Cambridge Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Andrew Wiley, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Wiley is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last 19 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Elisha Southerland, who went 5-for-9 en route to 13 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Anderson Christian hadn't done well against Temple Christian Academy recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Lions slipped by the Warriors 50-49. The game was the first time the Lions have beaten the Warriors on their court since November 14, 2022.

Cambridge Academy's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Anderson Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Things could have been worse for Cambridge Academy, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 63-44 loss to Anderson Christian in their previous meeting back in February. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
