The Mammoth Huskies will square off against the Mojave Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mammoth knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Mojave likes a good challenge.
Mammoth is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of California's top teams: Trona, who was ranked 21st at the time (Mammoth was ranked fifth). The Huskies claimed a resounding 76-8 win over the Tornadoes. The victory continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Tornadoes: they've now won five in a row.
Mammoth had a senior duo take command as Eli Ericson rushed for 111 yards and two TDs on only nine carries and DJ Gray picked up 105 receiving yards and three scores.
Mammoth was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 219 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 170 rushing yards in four consecutive games.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Mammoth, racking up 14 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Gray, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mojave). They came out on top against Lone Pine by a score of 82-72 on Saturday.
Mammoth better keep an eye on Jordan Davis. He was instrumental in Mojave's win, rushing for 468 yards and eight touchdowns while picking up 18.7 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Davis is now averaging an impressive 157.8 rushing yards per game. Jordan Chillis was another key player, gaining 181 total yards and two touchdowns.
Mammoth's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Mojave, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5.
Everything came up roses for Mammoth against Mojave in their previous matchup back in September of 2023, as the team secured a 53-0 win. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
