Baseball Recap: Manchester Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Manchester waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Napoleon Pirates by a score of 10-6. With that victory, the Flying Dutchmen brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Neil Gebhardt made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Michael Navitskis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That double was his first of the season. Ben Pauly was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Manchester now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Napoleon, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manchester will take on Addison at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Flying Dutchmen will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Napoleon, they will face off against Hillsdale at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
