Softball Recap: Serrano Takes a Loss

Serrano extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 10-13 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Oak Hills Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-1 on April 10th.

Wendy Arauz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jamie Motley, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

As for Oak Hills, they pushed their record up to 10-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games.

On Oak Hills' side, they got a great performance from CARSYN LEON as she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. LEON has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, AMAYA SIGALA and NATALIA MARTINS did most of the damage at the plate: SIGALA went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while MARTINS went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles SIGALA has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of JADE WHITMAN, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Serrano will take on Burroughs at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Burros have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.76 runs per game on average), something the Diamondbacks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Oak Hills, they will square off against Hesperia at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs are facing the Scorpions at the right time seeing as the Scorpions are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
