The Goldsboro Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Eastern Wayne Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Goldsboro had to endure a ten-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Spring Creek with a sharp 29-6 victory on Thursday. The win was just what Goldsboro needed coming off of a 49-0 loss in their prior matchup.
Meanwhile, Eastern Wayne owes their defense a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They came out on top against North Johnston by a score of 12-0.
Eastern Wayne can attribute much of their success to Izeiah Oates, who threw for 220 yards and a touchdown on only 14 passes, and Trondell Smith, who picked up 127 receiving yards and a touchdown. Eastern Wayne also got help from Charlie Thomas who showed off his sure hands for 90 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding North Johnston to a paltry 197 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Eastern Wayne's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Jamen Kornegay and his two sacks.
Goldsboro's win bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Eastern Wayne, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
