Basketball Recap: Round Valley Takes a Loss

On Thursday, the Round Valley Elks lost to the Horizon Honors Eagles at home by a 63-46 margin. The Elks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Round Valley lost, don't look at Brennan Brown. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 16 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Brown a new career-high in points. Ryan Rodriguez was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Round Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Max Gerelick was a one-man wrecking crew for Horizon Honors as he almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Gerelick has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Sean Segal, who posted nine points.

Round Valley's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Horizon Honors, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.

Round Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-47 defeat against Pinon on the 11th. As for Horizon Honors, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Benjamin Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Benjamin Franklin is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.6 points per game this season.
