5A Centennial recap October 29, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 5A Centennial this week, Cherry Creek beat Eaglecrest 41-34. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Bruins.
Smoky Hill fell to Grandview 56-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Elijah Ross was a passing and rushing force as the Raptors lost to Cherry Creek. He completed 8 passes for 86 yards and also ran for 83 yards. Ross' key target this week was Anthony Karmazyn, who caught 5 passes for 78 yards.
Anthony Malone made the biggest impact on defense this week as Eaglecrest fell to Dave Logan's team. The 5-foot-9 sophomore recorded 1 fumble and racked up 3 sacks.
Aric Johnson put up the best numbers through the air as Cherokee Trail topped Overland. He finished with 8 completions for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns. Johnson's favorite target this week was Jason Thompson, who caught 2 passes for 81 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Trailblazers' Austin Conway and Khalil Jenkins have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Conway has thrown for 1,683 yards this season, while Jenkins has 35 catches for 655 yards. The Cougars' Cameron Smith leads the league in rushing yards with 1,087.
Overland's Conway is a mere 9 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 119 carries Conway has accumulated 991 yard this year.
