The Vidor Pirates lost against the Silsbee Tigers back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Vidor was outmatched by Silsbee at home and fell 72-37. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Vidor in their matchups with Silsbee: they've now lost nine in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Vidor lost, one person who can't be blamed is Madison Powell. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Powell is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Silsbee to victory, but perhaps none more so than Monica Bottley, who scored 31 points along with five steals. Bottley is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last 25 games she's played. Jena Warden was another key contributor, scoring 25 points along with four steals.
Vidor's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 18-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 19-7 Little Cypress-Mauriceville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.2% over those games). As for Silsbee, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-3.
Vidor will head out on the road to square off against Little Cypress-Mauriceville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Vidor is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.6 points per game this season. As for Silsbee, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lumberton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Lumberton's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches.
