Basketball Recap: Pine Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Thomas Sawicki and Wade Singleton

Pine has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 64-46 bruising from the Westwood Panthers on Friday. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Wade Singleton and Thomas Sawicki certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Singleton dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards, while Sawicki almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Singleton has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maverick Wycoki, who posted four points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Pine smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Westwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Keith Seme, who earned eight points along with eight boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Seme a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Jean, who had 11 points and five steals.

Pine's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Westwood, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.

Pine wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 61-48 defeat against Port St. Lucie on the 4th. As for Westwood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 60-48 victory against John Carroll Catholic on the 4th.
